Briton kidnapped in Amazon reserve

23:05, Sep 29 2012

A British woman is believed to have been kidnapped in Ecuador while visiting a remote nature reserve in the Amazon jungle.

The tourist was abducted along with an Australian woman on Friday, according to the BBC.

It said the incident took place at the Cuyabeno nature reserve in the Tarapoa region of Sucumbios province, close to the border with Colombia.

The kidnappers are thought to be a Colombian group.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said: "We are aware of an incident and are working with the Ecuadorian authorities."

The FCO currently advises against all travel to the areas immediately bordering Colombia in Carchi province due to criminal activity and organised crime.
